Cycle rally to mark anti-drug day: DC

Tribune News ServiceBathinda, June 25Bathinda Deputy Commissioner (DC) B Srinivasan today said the district administration, along with Bathinda Cycling Group, would organise a cycle rally as a part of the event to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday. He said the rally was aimed at spreading awareness among people against drug abuse. An event would be organised at the District Administrative Complex, where people would be administered oath against drug abuse, he said. The DC said various sporting events would be organized at various villages with an aim to channelise the energy of youth in a constructive manner. Meanwhile, SSP Nanak Singh said as many as 38,352 Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs) were playing a significant role in sensitising the people to the drug abuse across the district.

As per a release, the DC said the rally would start from the Rose Garden at 5 am and would conclude at the same venue after passing through Gill Patti, Bhokhra, Khayaliwala and Joganand villages. He said the rally was aimed at spreading awareness among people against drug abuse. An event would be organised at the District Administrative Complex, where people would be administered oath against drug abuse, he said. The DC said various sporting events would be organized at various villages with an aim to channelise the energy of youth in a constructive manner. Meanwhile, SSP Nanak Singh said as many as 38,352 Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs) were playing a significant role in sensitising the people to the drug abuse across the district. In a release, the SSP said these DAPOs were being trained by 16 master trainers and 180 ground-level trainers from time to time. He said they had been running a series of programmes to make people aware of the issue. They had organised 740 meetings, seminars and rallies during the period from April 1, 2018 to June 20, 2019, in which 15,487 people had participated, he said.
