Councillor opens sewerage chamber to clear rainwater

Bathinda, July 23Congress councillor from ward number 19 opened the main chamber of sewerage and cleared the rainwater accumulated at Ballaram Nagar Chowk. Councilor Beant Randhawa alleged that Sewerage Board and private firm named Triveni’s poor functioning has intensified the problem of waterlogging in the city as they were not opening the main chamber of sewerage. As the councillor opened the main chamber, water, that was stuck earlier, drained quickly. While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Beant Randhawa said “Earlier, rainwater never accumulated at the Ballaram Nagar main chowk. But now, as road level has been raised and sewerage cover totally closed, rainwater gets accumulated.

Councilor Beant Randhawa alleged that Sewerage Board and private firm named Triveni’s poor functioning has intensified the problem of waterlogging in the city as they were not opening the main chamber of sewerage. As the councillor opened the main chamber, water, that was stuck earlier, drained quickly. While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Beant Randhawa said “Earlier, rainwater never accumulated at the Ballaram Nagar main chowk. But now, as road level has been raised and sewerage cover totally closed, rainwater gets accumulated. After the rain today, the same thing happened. When the people gathered there, I went to the spot and opened the sewerage main chamber, after which the entire water drained off.” He also stated that he had been repeatedly lodging complaints with the company Triveni and MCB officials about road gullies and manholes that had not been desilted in his area, but no action had been taken. The councillor said he had earlier akded the officials to open the main chamber of the sewerage as there was no way for rain water to drain, but sadly no such step was undertaken by them. —TNS
