MGNREGA workers stir continues for regular jobs

They alleged that the government had been stalling their demand for regular jobs for a long time. Bathinda, September 20 Members of the MGNREGA Workers’ Union continued their protest on the 5th consecutive day here at the Zila Parishad office on Friday. The protesters resorted to heavy sloganeering against the state government and carried out a protest march to the office of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal to submit a memorandum of demands. The police deployed there stopped the protesters near Multipurpose Stadium after which representatives of union gave the memorandum to the minister. The protesters alleged that despite working under MGNREGA for the past many years, the government has not regularised their services. They alleged that the government had been stalling their demand for regular jobs for a long time. Kor Singh, president of the union, said, “We have submitted a memorandum of demands and if our genuine demand is not fulfilled, we will continue our struggle in future as well. The state government is not providing us work, which forced us to lodge a protest. Despite working diligently for the past many years, the government did not regularise our services. The BJP government at the Centre has been adopting anti-labour policies ever since it came to power in 2014. Labour laws have been repealed to benefit big entrepreneurs.” Burn CM's effigy Muktsar: Some MGNREGA employees demanding regularisation of their jobs on Friday took out a protest march in the town. They burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Notably, they are lodging a protest in this regard from the past few days.
