Fire breaks out in paddy residue dump at Jeeda

Malkit Singh, contractor of the paddy residue dump, said, “Farmers were sleeping near their tractor-trailers when the fire broke out. Malkit added, “A large volume of paddy residue was stored in the dump. A number of tractors and trailers were gutted in the fire.”Later, police personnel from the Nehianwala police station managed to take away 12 tractor-trailers laden with paddy residue from the dump safely. According to information, the paddy residue stored in the dump was to be transported to a biomass plant at a Faridkot village.

As a result, four tractors and five trailers were gutted. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. No casualty was reported in the incident. Malkit Singh, contractor of the paddy residue dump, said, “Farmers were sleeping near their tractor-trailers when the fire broke out. First, a dhaba owner came to know about the incident. He raised the alarm following which the farmers ran away. As the fire spread rapidly, the farmers had to immediately rush away from the spot without taking away their tractors or other belongings.” As many as four fire tenders from Bathinda were pressed into service to douse the flames. According to villagers, fire tenders reached the spot quite late otherwise the damage could have been mitigated. They added that the fire broke out around 12:30 am. Malkit added, “A large volume of paddy residue was stored in the dump. A number of tractors and trailers were gutted in the fire.” Later, police personnel from the Nehianwala police station managed to take away 12 tractor-trailers laden with paddy residue from the dump safely. According to information, the paddy residue stored in the dump was to be transported to a biomass plant at a Faridkot village. Rajesh Kumar, Station House Officer, Nehianwala police station, said, “We are investigating the matter and trying to know the exact cause of the fire. After the probe, appropriate action will be taken against the culprits.
