BHOPAL: With photographs of the H D Kumaraswamy swearing-in ceremony indicating a BJP-vs-all in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, PCC chief Kamal Nath on Thursday said a grand alliance of Congress with parties like BSP and SP is likely in Madhya Pradesh before the November assembly polls.Speaking to reporters, Nath said that an alliance will be worked out before the 2018 state elections, “keeping the broader picture of the Lok Sabha polls in mind”. “But till now there is no major development because a lot of details will have to be worked out,” he added.Pointing out that every state has its own unique issues, he said that particulars of the alliance are being analysed. “Bengal, for instance, has its own issues. An alliance with anti-BJP like-minded parties is imminent but will take a little more time. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured just 31% of votes which, means 69% voted against the BJP. And yet they claim ‘janadesh’ (people’s support)’,” Nath said.PCC chief said Congress will observe Vishwasghat Diwas (Betrayal Day) on May 26 when BJP marks four years of Modi government. “Betrayal Day is an AICC programme and will be observed by Congress throughout the country,” Nath said., adding, “Two farmers committed suicide in mandis recently. There are 2-3-km long lines of farmers outside mandis, where they are waiting for produce to be sold. But government here is busy taking out yatras. These yatras do not go to mandis where the farmer is struggling.”People are harried by increasing fuel prices, said the former Union minister. “BJP was demonstrating on the streets against the UPA government when petrol was selling at Rs 55 per litre and international crude oil prices were as high as $124 a barrel. Today, international crude oil prices have slumped to $74 a barrel yet petrol has crossed Rs 80. So what are they celebrating?” he asked.
