Three students held for hitting and dragging ASI

BHOPAL: Three youth who hit an assistant sub-inspector of police and dragged him at high speed for over a kilometre in the heart of Bhopal late Saturday night, turned out to be B Com students. As the others watched in horror, the driver kept accelerating, dragging Bhilala along the road as the lower half of his body was trapped between the car and road. Accused have been identified as Mayank Arya, 21, Mohit Singroli, 19 and Abhishek Singroli, 21. Instead, the driver accelerated and smashed into the officer.The impact was so severe that the officer got stuck in the bonnet.

The three were identified with the help of CCTV footage.The condition of the subinspector is critical and he is hospitalized with multiple fractures and severed hips.Police traced the accused within 12 hours. The trio were found sleeping at a house in Devki Nagar. Accused have been identified as Mayank Arya, 21, Mohit Singroli, 19 and Abhishek Singroli, 21. Abhishek’s father is a bus driver. The car was being driven by Mayank at the time of incident. They have been booked on the charges of attempt to murder, obstructing government work and other sections of IPC. Accused were returning home in an alto car bearing registration No. MP04-CP-4360, after watching a film when the incident took place in the Nishatpura area.ASI Amritlal Bhilala, 52, was manning a checkpoint along with constable Dwarka Parmar in front of Best Price showroom on the main road when they saw a car coming at high speed from Nishatpura area and Bhilala stepped forward to stop it. Instead, the driver accelerated and smashed into the officer.The impact was so severe that the officer got stuck in the bonnet. As the others watched in horror, the driver kept accelerating, dragging Bhilala along the road as the lower half of his body was trapped between the car and road. He was thrown free only when the driver hit a speed breaker near Karond Mandi at high speed. His teammates called an ambulance and took him to a private hospital. Police tried to chase the car also but lost track of it.
