MP Congress-BSP deny any discussions held on pre-poll alliance

In 2008 assembly elections, it secured 8.97% votes which in 2013 the party got 6.29% votes. And AICC president Rahul Gandhi has said that alliance talks will be held and decided before the elections. But he also repeatedly specified that “nothing concrete has happened so far on the alliance front”.Madhya Pradesh Congress media committee chairman Manak Agarwal said on Monday, “The alliance will be decided at the level of the high-command. “We are baffled by the 'ek tarfa prachar (one-sided publicity)’ quoting the Congress of an alliance,” Ahirwar said. “The situation today is that alliance will be determined by party supremo Bahanji Mayawati.

BHOPAL: Denying all media reports on alliance understanding for upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh , both the state Congress and state BSP on Monday told TOI that “even discussions on possible coalition have not started.”State Congress president Kamal Nath has so far been reiterating that the party is open for alliance before the elections with like-minded parties so that the anti-BJP vote-bank does not get “fragmented”. But he also repeatedly specified that “nothing concrete has happened so far on the alliance front”.Madhya Pradesh Congress media committee chairman Manak Agarwal said on Monday, “The alliance will be decided at the level of the high-command. And AICC president Rahul Gandhi has said that alliance talks will be held and decided before the elections. We are hoping that the alliance talks with eye on 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be finalised before the 2018 assembly elections here.”Agarwal argued that discussions on alliance have not even commenced and final decision will be known only when the nod comes from the party high-command.The state BSP president Narmada Prasad Ahirwar denied any knowledge on the Congress-BCP understanding for the November assembly polls. “We are baffled by the 'ek tarfa prachar (one-sided publicity)’ quoting the Congress of an alliance,” Ahirwar said. “The situation today is that alliance will be determined by party supremo Bahanji Mayawati. And so far, there is no knowledge or communication to us about such an alliance with the Congress.”Ahirwar said, the BSP which has four of the 230 seats in the state, is preparing to contest the polls solo as in 2008 and 2013. “We have candidates for 230 seats in the state and are preparing to contest the polls in November with BSP’s own candidates. Rest depends on Bahanji’s orders. When and if she decides on the alliance, we will follow her orders,” Ahriwar added.The BSP has its influence over 60-odd seats in the state spreading over the Chambal and Bundelkhand areas adjoining Uttar Pradesh.
