Madhya Pradesh's tiger released in Odisha's Satkosia reserve

BHOPAL: In a successful operation, a tiger was captured and translocated from Kanha national park in Madhya Pradesh to the Satkosia tiger reserve in Odisha on Wednesday. Officials claim this is the first time that a tiger from any tiger reserve has been sent to another state for reintroduction.The tiger was tranquilised by the wildlife veterinarians of Kanha and Pench tiger reserves, and was measured for different physical parameters. As two tigers are to be sent from Kanha, this was the first tiger in this sequence.This is the first time that a tiger from any tiger reserve has been sent to another state for reintroductionIn the conservation history of India, this is the first time that a tiger from any tiger reserve has been sent to another state for reintroduction. Hopefully, this tiger will fulfill the objective of this ambitious project and help establish a good population of tigers at Satkosia, said an officials release. A team of forest officers and wildlife veterinarian also arrived at Kanha from Odisha for this operation.K S Bhadoria, Joint Director, Ms Anjana Suchita Tirkey, Deputy Director, Kanha Tiger Reserve, Dr K Ramesh, Senior Scientist, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Dr Rakesh Shukla, Research Officer, Dr Sandeep Agrawal, Wildlife Veterinarian, Kanha Tiger Reserve, Dr Akhilesh Mishra, Wildlife Veterinarian, Pench Tiger Reserve, S K Khare, S K Sinha, Ranjit Singh Uikey, S K Mishra, S K Sendram, Assistant Directors, Range Officers, and the staff of Kanha Tiger Reserve participated in this operation.However, wildlife activist Ajay Dubey had been opposing this movie expressing concern over tiger safety in Odisha.
