BHOPAL: Call it an irony. For more than a month, Teen Mohre Gate — a structure of historic importance near the Taj Mahal on Motia Talab Road in old city — awaits repair as three government departments are indulging in blame game rather than fixing the problem. Around two months ago, when two stones from one of the two gates fell on the road, traffic police blocked it with barricades.Traffic police DSP Ajay Vajpayee said, “After we were informed about the incident, we quickly blocked the way as it could lead to severe accident as the stone had fallen from 18 feet height.”“Those who come from Raisen and Vidisha to visit Hamidia hospital take this road. The road passes through the gates. We informed the BMC control room about it,” he said.When asked, Bhopal Municipal Corporation city engineer Keshav Pathak, said, “After receiving the information, we issued a notice to PWD as the Teen Mohre Gate’s upper part is maintained by public work department (PWD) and the projection that came off was from upper part of the gate.”“After the notice was issued, the PWD had used bamboo sticks as prop to provide support to the gate till it gets repaired,” he claimed.When contacted, PWD maintenance section in-charge Sanjay Khande said, “The gate was handed over to Madhya Pradesh Tourism (MPT) along with the Taj Mahal. Since it is under the MPT jurisdiction, they are responsible for its repairing.”When MPT maintenance department in-charge KPS Rana said, “MPT has only acquired Taj Mahal and not the Teen Mohre Gate. It is under jurisdiction of PWD only.”Due to the blame game among three departments, the historical structure is exposed to a big risk as three bamboo sticks are there to support the structure .Due to the blocked way, every day huge traffic jam takes place under the gate. DSP Ajay Vajpayee said, “Since the area is highly dense and the Teen Mohre Gate has huge traffic movement, traffic jam takes place due to one way road.”He said “Around 50,000 vehicles pass through the gate everyday hence, there is a need of two lanes there. However, due to poor condition of the structure we cannot open the way for traffic movement.”
