BHOPAL: My wife Sarita woke up at around 5 am and was horrified to see her three children, including twins and daughter, slipping into the rain or drain water that had inundated our house. Worried, Sarita woke me up from my sleep after the night shift work at the office. I too could not believe my eyes that my family was slowly slipping into the water. Just a month back our family had moved to Avantika Colony in Pragati Nagar near Rishipuram.My first response was to move the kids to the upper floor of the duplex house and switch the power supply off. As the water-level was rising, I and my wife moved the kids to the upper floor. With the major task of moving my kids to safer place achieved by 5.45 am, I glanced at the street in front of my house only to see that the tyres of cars were slowly disappearing in the water.My mind was clogged with all sorts of thoughts. I started thinking whether my decision to move to Avantika colony was wrong or right. However, I had no time to brood over as water was gushing into my house. At around 7 am, the water level had gone up to knee height in the main hall. Then we decided to flush out as much water as possible from the house. The operation continued throughout the day. Even at 5 pm, we were still scooping water out from kitchen and the drawing room. Our house was in a disarray. The furniture was soaked in water and the utensils scattered all over the house. It is just the beginning of monsoon, and many more days to go... so what is in store for me? I kept wondering even as I was busy flushing water out of my house.
