Govt clears air, says no fresh hike in registration fee for land, property

Bhopal: Under fire for “hike” in registration fee for land and property for the second time in five months, the state government on Wednesday clarified there was no fresh hike in the registration fee after February.When asked, commercial tax additional chief secretary Manoj Shrivastava told TOI, “There is no hike in the registration fee. “The hike was effected in mid-February and we have already raised an additional Rs 200 crore through that,” he said.Registration fee on land, property:Urban areas: 10.3% comprising 9.5% stamp duty + .8 % registration feeRural areas: 7.3% comprising 6.5% stamp duty + .8 % registration fee Has there been any circular or notification to the effect that registration fee is being raised?” he asked.Shrivastava said in February when registration fee was raised by 1%, it was done through an ordinance and now an Act has replaced that ordinance. I have also read stories in this regard in some local newspapers, but it is not true.
