BHOPAL/INDORE: At least 10 people were killed, four of them children, in Bhopal and Mandsaur as overnight rain turned streets into rivers and drains into death zones in the wee hours of Tuesday.The forecast for the next 24 hours is grim as more heavy rain likely to pound already submerged areas.This part of Madhya Pradesh got a glimpse of the horror of what Kerala is going through as the skies opened up on Monday evening. The steady downpour turned into torrential rain after midnight, and thousands of people woke up to water sloshing around in their homes at bed level.For six people in Bhopal, including four kids, it was too late. Three of them drowned in canals that were flowing five to six feet above their banks. And three were killed in a wall collapse. In flooded Mandsaur, three employees of JK Cements and their driver drowned as their car was swept off a submerged bridge near Gulaniya village on Tuesday evening.Witnesses say the driver, Navratan Goyal, ignored warnings by villagers and tried to cross the bridge on Maria Khal Nullah, Mandsaur SP Manoj Kumar Singh said. The Swift was swept away in seconds, even as Raisen resident Rahul Maheshwari, his colleague Deepak Agrawal of Mandsaur and company C&F agent Arvind Nagori of Neemuch kept screaming for help.Some villagers plunged in after the car, swam to it and tied it with ropes. Despite the rushing water, they smashed the windscreens and pulled out the three men but they had already drowned.
