Madhya Pradesh: Car plunges into river, 4 killed

BHOPAL: Four of a family including two children drowned after their car plunged into a river in Bhind district late on Monday night. The driver bypassed the barricades and took the car inside water, even before they could reach the river bank they got drowned in the catchment itself. The Besla river was overflowing and barricades were put up. Villagers rushed to the spot and Dial 100 was also informed. Three of them including the driver were rescued but others could not be saved.”“It has also surfaced that the family members who got drowned were actually sleeping on the rear seats of the vehicle when the incident took place,” Singh said.Bodies were recovered late in the night itself while the vehicle was taken out on Tuesday morning, he added.

There were seven people in the vehicle but three of them were rescued by locals.The incident took place near a bridge on Besla river under Mehgaon police station of the district at around 11.45 pm on Monday night.The deceased have been identified as Om Prakash Pateria, 40, his wife Lata Pateria , 36, their children Divya , 12 and Shirnarayan, 10, all residents of Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh.“The family along with two others and a driver were returning from Pilibhit district after visiting their Guru’s ashram in Maruti Omni van when the accident took place,” Mehgaon police station incharge, Sujit Singh told TOI.He added, “Prima facie it seems to be the carelessness of the driver that led to the accident. The Besla river was overflowing and barricades were put up. Villagers rushed to the spot and Dial 100 was also informed.
