Farmer's son to debut in international blind cricket match

BHOPAL: For 22-year-old Om Prakash Pal, October 2 will be a day to remember. Son of a humble farmer from a small village in Rajgarh district, Om Prakash is set to make his international debut in Bengaluru as the Indian blind cricket team prepares to face England in a tri-series.Overjoyed, the all-rounder Om Prakash is ready to grab the opportunity at a global stage. He will also be a part of India-Sri Lanka international T20 blind cricket which will be held at Bhopal's BHEL ground on October 17.Talking to TOI, Om Prakash said that it has always been his dream to represent the country. "Two days ago, I got a call from Sonu Golkar (player in Indian blind cricket team) that I have been selected for the England series. I cannot tell you how happy I am at the moment. I am very excited to play against England," he said.Blind by birth, Om Prakash took up cricket while studying in Class 7. "I could not afford to give up just because I was blind. I always wanted to play cricket, but the biggest issue was that I came from a small village. I thought it was not possible for me to live my dream. After Class 12 I went to Indore and started playing cricket," said Om Prakash. "We are three brothers and I am the youngest. My family supported me and made it possible for me to play for the country."About the preparations for the match, secretary of MP blind cricket association Sonu Golkar said that the match will be telecast live on DD Sports from the BHEL ground. The last big match hosted on the BHEL ground was a Ranji tie way back in 1993-94. Blind cricket is governed by the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) since 1996.
