Also he used to remain depressed after his father's death and might have taken the extreme step due to it.This year, a number of minors have committed suicide mostly over trivial issues. Throwing light on this disturbing trend, consultant psychiatrist Satyakant Trivedi said, "The basic reason behind such incidents can be attributed to failure in handling and managing the stress. Nowadays parenting is increasingly becoming protective, which is why the children are not used to handle adversities or trauma. Mental disorder is increasing day by day but it is underdiagnosed and untreated.""Sometimes there is depression and petty issues triggers extreme step like merely scolding triggers suicide. In this era of competition, the increasing expectations of parents from their children are also a reason. The comparison of children with their peers and critical comments affect them. Parents should understand that life of children is precious then their grades. The IQ level of a child is different from another. You cannot expect them to perform alike, " Trivedi said.Regarding measures to be adopted to deal with this situation, Trivedi said, "Chapters on stress management should be added to the school curriculum so that the students know how to deal with it. Parents should maintain an atmosphere of harmony at home and communicate properly with children. They should listen to them more and suggest less. On seeing any behavioural changes in child, contact a mental health expert.""The most important thing is to keep children away from social media as much as possible during these two to three months before exams as it disturbs concentration," Trivedi added.Psychologist Rahul Sharma said, "The main reason for such incidents is lack of quality communication between parents and child. If parents are more indulged in their job, TV or mobile rather than giving time to children, the human relationship, biological aptitude biological logic does not develop in child. Then the child becomes mechanical and does not understand various dimensions of things shown on TV, mobile. Children without understanding the after-affects instantly take drastic step. Parents should understand the individuality of the child and his uniqueness and respect it, accept it.""Parents should have their expectations according to their calibre. They should talk to them more without building pressure,." Sharma added.
