MP polls: BJP to finalise 75 tickets in first phase

BHOPAL: With all and sundry eyeing for the party ticket for the forthcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh , the BJP has hinted that leaders who lost the previous assembly elections with a large margin would be dropped from the list of probable. The party has also decided not to field candidates with 'tainted' image though, winnability would be the sole criteria for giving the tickets."The party has started distribution of assembly tickets. It was decided that leaders with tainted image and those who lost previous elections with a huge margin, would not be considered. Though, there are certain guidelines and on winnability criteria the high command would take a final decision", disclosed a senior BJP state functionary.Party leaders believed that 'image' will play an important role in the ticket distribution as most of the leaders consider 'good image' as an edge over rival contestant. The party has also collected feedback from various agencies which is being reviewed by the state election management committee headed by union minister Narendra Singh Tomar As per the guidelines for ticket distribution, aspirants with tainted image, criminal background, misuse of muscle power, affiliation with controversial personality or family, negative image in the constituency will not get the ticket. Feedback from workers of the assembly segment would also be considered before finalising names. The first list include top 75 names, said sources.As per reports, there are 13 candidates who lost their previous election by a margin of 20,000 or more votes. One candidate, Radheshyam Dhakad lost to Congress candidate Jaiwardhan Singh by a margin of 58,204 votes while, seven candidates lost the election by a margin of 30,000 or more votes. They might face the axe.Among the winners, Parul Sahu (Surkhi), Kamal Marskole (Barghat) and Velsingh Bhuria ( Sardarpur ) won the 2013 assembly election by a thin margin of less than 1,000 votes. The party is also likely to decide their fate during the election committee meeting, sources added.There are several ginger groups within the BJP campaigning and lobbying ticket for their favourite candidates even as their larger aim is to ensure that their party wins a major chunk of seats. The parties are also keen on fielding candidates of dominant community. Much to the chagrin of the leaders, party ticket is being sought on the caste basis, although, at the outset, the claims are based on what is termed as winnability of the candidates, said sources."Those disloyal to the party will not get ticket. Those who will try to disturb or influence the selection process or file nomination as an Independent candidate will also be shown the door", said a senior leader adding, there are some Lok Sabha member seeking assembly ticket but, the central leadership would decide their fate."The ticket distribution process is simply based on the party guidelines and criteria set up by the election management committee.
