51,000 Brahmins up in arms about SC/ST act, put BJP in spot

UJJAIN: Upper caste anger against the amendment to SC/ST Protection Act has put the ruling BJP in a tight spot. They want the Centre and state to implement Supreme Court’s order on investigation before arrest under SC/ST Protection Act and demand scrapping of castebased quotas. Brahmin leader Mahamandleshwar Atulanand Saraswati alleged that both BJP and Congress have imposed the ‘black law’ on upper caste. In two months, they (Congress and BJP) will come to beg.” The protesters burnt an effigy of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and raised slogans against Ujjain BJP MP Chintaman Malviya and Ujjain South MLA Mohan Yadav. Reservation should be only on economic criteria, they argued.The protesters announced that they have an eye on the coming elections.

On Friday, 51,000 Brahmins gave the war cry in Ujjain: “Jab Jab Brahman Bola Hai, Raj Sinhasan Dola hai (whenever a Brahmin speaks up, the throne is rocked).”BJP can ill afford to ignore this warning. Not when Brahmins from all over the country hold a special gathering in one of the holiest cities of India, brandish firearms and say: “Brahmins have taken up arms when atrocities against them have soared.” While some women held up doubleb-arrel guns and air guns, a few men carried the Parashu (battle axe) said to be Lord Parashuram’s weapon.The upper-caste members gathered at Dussehra Maidan under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Brahmin Mahasangh and denounced BJP government in Madhya Pradesh for pushing for reservation in promotions.
