Dacoit demanding 'terror tax' and 'ghee' shot dead by villagers in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: Chambal Valley won't breed a new crop of dacoits again. This was a clear message from a remote village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh where villagers braved a gun battle with a gang of dacoits, who were trying to extort money from them.The incident was reported from Karna Manpur village – located 40 km from the district headquarters. It was once a breeding ground for the outlaws.Police said firing took place late on Friday night. Villagers found one dead next morning. His identity has not been ascertained yet.“There are not listed dacoits in the region. We are trying to identify the deceased,” said Amit Sanghi, Morena SP. It seems more of their gang members have sustained injuries as we have found traces of blood to around 500 meters, said the officer.This region forms intersection of the three states - Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh - making it a breeding ground for gangsters who escape from one state to the other once identified. “We were on hunt for some absconders, two of them have bounty of Rs 16000. One who got killed could be one of them,” police said.Villagers told police that seven dacoits, five of them armed with guns, had visited their area a week ago asking for Rs 50000 and ghee. “Last night they came again asking for money. When they started firing, villagers too fired in defence,” said the SP.He was shot using a Bharmar gun - a muzzle loading firearm, in which gunpowder is loaded crudely from the barrel, said the officer. His body was sent for post-mortem examination.
