Exact reason behind her suicide is not known yet.She was arrested in 2015 by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Gwalior police that was probing the scam for allegedly impersonating twice in pre-medical test appearing as ‘solver’.A PG student from Lucknow at that time, Dr Manisha Sharma was accused of appearing in PMT from Gwalior in 2008 for a student named Sarita Sharma. Investigators claimed Manisha had received Rs 2.5 lakh to appear for the exam and added she appeared in exam after insisted by her friend Umesh Baghel. In 2009, it was alleged that she had appeared for PMT again, for another student Jyoti Yadav. Her father works with UP electricity board in Jhansi. She was arrested from Lucknow on May 10, 2015 and charged under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B and 201 of IPC and Section 3/4 of Examination Act. Middle man Umesh Baghel was also arrested. However, Sarita Sharma remained at large.CBI had moved objections against Dr Sharma’s bail saying, "looking to the nature of the offence and the way it was committed by the applicant as solver by appearing in the alleged competitive examination of PMT on behalf of other student Sarita Sharma, for which sufficient evidence is available in the charge sheet, she does not deserve for grant of bail." Dr Sharma however got bail on November 3, 2015.With directions that she shall report to the CBI Office, Chambal Colony Thatipur, Gwalior for her appearance on every second and fourth Sunday of the month between 10:00 to 12:00 O'clock to assist the Investigating Officer in holding the further/supplementary investigation of the impugned case against the other co- accused, she was also asked to deposit her passport, before the Court of Warrant Magistrate or notified trial Court of the impugned case and had been ordered to not to leave the boundaries of the State of MP and Uttar Pradesh without prior permission of this court/trial court/concerning Investigating Officer, as the case may be.
