If 45 lakh children are suffering from stunted growth, it clearly means that malnutrition is chronic. The government is not sensitive towards the issue", Jain added. It said it will come out with a policy for inter-sectoral convergence to tackle malnutrition, and make a framework for community-based management of malnutrition, besides working for livelihood and employment", Jain said. "It will be of great help if all the aspects of 2010 mission are implemented along with ensuring maternity entitlement to women working in the unorganised sector of the state," Jain said. Stunting is an outcome of chronic and severe malnutrition.

Malnutrition, which became a major issue in the state during 2008 assembly elections for the first time, continues to haunt the state government even now.The National Family Health Survey IV, 2016 stated that there are more than 45 lakh underweight and stunted children in the state. The state government has initiated several schemes, like 'Sneh Sarokar' a scheme aimed at ensuring that children are adopted by locals, and given financial aid to families of Saharia tribes and others, but activists feel that these are mere half-hearted efforts."The condition has worsened. If 45 lakh children are suffering from stunted growth, it clearly means that malnutrition is chronic. Stunting is an outcome of chronic and severe malnutrition. The same NHFS IV 2016 said that more than 10 lakh children are severely underweight," Sachin Jain, an activist working on child health issue and also the member of the steering committee for rights to food campaign, told TOI."It was in the year 2010 that for the first time the government came out with Atal Vihari Vajpayee Child Health and Nutrition Mission and said that it will no longer be in a denial mode regarding malnutrition. It said it will come out with a policy for inter-sectoral convergence to tackle malnutrition, and make a framework for community-based management of malnutrition, besides working for livelihood and employment", Jain said."But till date nothing has been done. It clearly reflects the sheer lack of will power on the part of the government. The government is not sensitive towards the issue", Jain added."It will be of great help if all the aspects of 2010 mission are implemented along with ensuring maternity entitlement to women working in the unorganised sector of the state," Jain said.
