BHOPAL: “ Faces are often deceptive,” said Congress leader in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad while obliquely referring to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in reply to a question why his party doesn’t project a chief ministerial face like the BJP.“You have seen, faces are often deceptive. But, our face, who becomes the chief minister will check crimes against women, will provide jobs to youth, will take care of the debt-ridden farmers and malnourished children,” he said at a press conference here at PCC headquarters on Saturday. Accusing the incumbent, BJP government of multiple failures, he said rape in MP have seen a growth of 260% during 15 years of BJP rule. “It’s shameful that 32% of gurls in MP are married before they are adult. It doesn’t happen even in most backward states of the country,” he said.“NITI commission report says education in MP was among worst in the country. As many as 18,000 schools have just one student. Even in Jammu & Kashmir after so many years of insurgency, the situation is no bad., There is fear of violence, yet schools have students,” he said.He also took a dig at the state government for widespread malnourishment and heavy debt on farmers. “Statistics of the Union government show that 42% of farmers in the state are debt-ridden. It’s quite a large number, perhaps the largest in the country,” he said. When asked about alleged fudging of figures by the state government to get “Krishi Karman” awards, he said, “Yes, it’s true. Chief minister could face criminal proceedings for this, but we don’t want to do it at this stage. Let there be new Parliament.”
