BHOPAL: Miffed over the issues of ticket distribution for Madhya Pradesh polls , a Congress worker attempted suicide in Gwalior district on Friday afternoon.Prem Singh Kushwah, a former Congress general secretary, took the extreme step in front of Madhavrao Jivajirao Scindia’s bust in Gwalior city around 2pm. He was shifted to a private hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.Police said Kushwah who was angry at not being given a ticket to contest from Gwalior constituency had consumed some poisonous substance but is now in a stable condition. His statement would be recorded after permission from doctors, said an officer. A ‘suicide note’ apparently written by Kushwah went viral on social media after this incident. The letter reads, “Some people are spreading rumours in the city that I am joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is false and baseless. I would be working as a Congress worker till I breathe my last. I am an active Congress worker for the last 46 years and have remained on important posts in this period. I am with Scindia for the last 35 years,” it said.He added – “Our leadership is arrogant and stubborn like a child. I had requested them to honour field workers by giving ticket to one of them or if suitable, consider me instead of giving it to ‘foreign birds’” he added.“Forming a government doesn’t mean that dedicated party workers should be made to sit at home and give ticket to someone who abused Indira and Rajeev Gandhi from a public platform,”“I strongly condemn the decision of giving a ticket to Madan Singh Kushwah who joined Congress from BSP only one and a half years ago. This has hurt sentiments of Congress workers and is like crushing their requests with foot. As a protest over this decision which is going to have an adverse impact to the partym, I am forced to take this extreme step,” letter concludes.Earlier a BJP worker had attempted self-immolation outside the party office in Jabalpur district on Thursday expressing his anger against ticket to Harendra Jeet Singh ‘Babbu’. Senior leader Awtar Singh came with a can filled with kerosene at the BJP office around 12.30pm and started raising slogans. He had levelled allegations against Babbu and accused the BJP of favouring him. Singh demanded an inquiry on how Babbu amassed crores of rupees though he was only an auto rickshaw driver some years ago.Police said he had doused himself with kerosene but was rescued by party workers. During the scuffle, he fell unconscious and was admitted to a hospital. Police recorded his statement at the hospital and launched investigation.Sources say Awatar Singh was seeking BJP ticket from the Jabalpur West, but party preferred ‘Babbu’.
