BHOPAL: Congress manifesto for assembly election appears to have created a buzz in sports arena. Unlike 2013, the Congress manifesto 2018 for sports has drawn a roadmap, promising new academies and launch of schemes, keeping in mind, welfare of players.In 2013 manifesto, it was only formation of special training centres for games like football, aquatics, hockey, badminton , cricket, basketball, volleyball , kabaddi, athletics and others. In 2018, special focus has been given to sports.The party manifesto spelled out formation of a comprehensive sports policy for the state, where special focus will be on women athletes. In 2013, the party promised a youth policy, not sports policy. In youth policy, there was no mention of women in that policy.Vikarm awardees will get government jobs. Those who do not get job will be given Rs 15,000 per month honorarium. For athletes, who win medal in Olympics, will be entitled for Rs 51,000 per month salary. Besides, sports quota in government jobs will be raised and specific position for players, the manifesto said.In every district, Zila Panchayat chief executive officer (CEO) will be made additional director (nodal officer sports). Chess academy will be formed in Bhopal. Except for Bhopal District Chess Association, there is no academy in the state at the moment.At village, block and district level, sports grounds will be developed. They will be given modern equipment so that talent from rural areas get opportunity, the manifesto said. Promotion of hockey across the state will get special focus. Manifesto promised every year from November 14 to November 30, regional Olympics games will be organised. For different games to be organised in regional Olympic games, age group will be 6-12, 13-18 and above 19.
