BJP bigwigs go all out to woo rebels back into party fold

BHOPAL: After unrest over ticket distribution, top BJP leaders are now trying their best to quell the rebellion in the party. To address the issue, senior party leaders from the centre and the state held a meeting in Bhopal on Saturday. BJP leaders- including Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, national vice-president Prabhat Jha, state BJP president Rakesh Singh, state organisational general secretary Suhas Bhagat and state general secretary VD Sharma - reviewed the situation and discussed possible solutions to the crisis.The list of BJP rebels is long. Around 20 BJP leaders have filed nominations as independent candidates or joined other parties. In Bhind, Narendra Singh Kushwah, sitting BJP MLA, has joined Samajwadi Party to contest against Rakesh Choudhary.

Around 20 BJP leaders have filed nominations as independent candidates or joined other parties. Facing anti-incumbency after 15 years of rule, the BJP is making all out efforts to pacify the rebels. To address the issue, senior party leaders from the centre and the state held a meeting in Bhopal on Saturday. Party leaders gauged seat-wise threat from rebels and possibility to bring them back to the party fold.November 14 is the last date for withdrawal of nomination while polling is scheduled on November 28.BJP's aim is to persuade the rebels to withdraw their candidature. In the last assembly elections, the vote margin of winners and losers was just 2% in 33 seats of the state. BJP leaders- including Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, national vice-president Prabhat Jha, state BJP president Rakesh Singh, state organisational general secretary Suhas Bhagat and state general secretary VD Sharma - reviewed the situation and discussed possible solutions to the crisis.The list of BJP rebels is long. After Satraj Singh, BJP had to face rebellion from powerful Kurmi leader from Bundelkhand and five-time party MP Ramkrishna Kusumaria, who filed nomination papers from Damoh and Patharia seats as an independent a day earlier.In neighbouring Chhatarpur, BJP's district general secretary and chairperson of Nagar Parishad Anitya Singh has revolted against official BJP candidate Rakesh Prajapati from Chandla.In Khargapur seat, Surendra Pratap Singh, a former BJP parliamentary secretary, is contesting on a Samajwadi Party ticket, while another BJP leader-turned-rebel Ajay Yadav has joined BSP to contest against BJP's Rahul Singh Lodhi, nephew of former CM Uma Bharti.Anita Prabhudayal Khatik is contesting against official BJP candidate Harishankar Khatik, and in Niwari, BJP rebel Hindu Satyanath is challenging party MLA Anil Jain. In Bhind, Narendra Singh Kushwah, sitting BJP MLA, has joined Samajwadi Party to contest against Rakesh Choudhary. Satyavrat Chaturvedi, a former BJP district president in Panna, has filed nomination as an independent from Panna assembly segment.Jitendra Daga, former BJP MLA from Huzur, and Ravindra Awasthi from Bhopal North are also in the fray as independents. They could dent the chances of BJP candidates Rameshwer Sharma and Fatima Siddique. Brahma Ratnakar, another BJP rebel, is contesting from Berasia. Raghavji Bhai, former finance minister, is contesting as an independent from Shamshabad in Vidisha and Dhiraj Pateria, former office-bearer of BJYM, is taking on Sharad Jain from Jabalpur Central. Former BJP Gwalior mayor, Sameeksha Gupta is contesting as an independent candidate
