Congress promises 40% budget for women, slams Shivraj govt over safety of girls

BHOPAL: A day after releasing its manifesto, the Congress party on Sunday moved a step forward and attacked the BJP government over safety of women in the state. "Congress would set up a Rani Durgavati police battalion in the state to create a safe environment for girls", Chaturvedi said. She said that over 52,000 girls and women have been raped during BJP's rule in MP. "Congress would set up fast track courts, give smartphones to girls with a safety app so that they can get assistance 24/7. The party would also give Rs51,000 for marriage expenses of women and reduce the cost of cooking gas by Rs100," Chaturvedi added.

It promised a host of measures for the benefit of women if it is voted to power in Madhya Pradesh.Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said that the party would allocate 40% of the state budget for women. She said that over 52,000 girls and women have been raped during BJP's rule in MP. "The Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government tops the country with maximum rape cases for eight consecutive years," she said."Congress would set up a Rani Durgavati police battalion in the state to create a safe environment for girls", Chaturvedi said. Referring to numerous rape and murder cases in Bhopal, Indore , Gwalior, Mandsaur and Seoni, she said the BJP only made provisions of capital punishment for rapists, but not a single person has been hanged for rape so far. "Congress would open dedicated women police kiosks in areas prone to crimes against women. A special cell would be constituted to search for missing girls and safe hostels will be opened for differently-abled girls," Chaturvedi said.Chaturvedi also talked about 21,000 'unfulfilled' announcements made by the CM and questioned why minister Rampal Singh was given a ticket despite the fact that her daughter-in-law committed suicide. "Congress would set up fast track courts, give smartphones to girls with a safety app so that they can get assistance 24/7. The party would also give Rs51,000 for marriage expenses of women and reduce the cost of cooking gas by Rs100," Chaturvedi added."Free of cost housing registration, only 3% stamp duty for agricultural land registration, free of cost sanitary napkins, increase in destitute pension for women to Rs 1,000 and a 'samman nidhi' of Rs 1 lakh for women completing 100 years of age are also on offer", Chaturvedi said."Congress would also focus on job creation", Chaturvedi added.
