Battleground Bhopal: Poll scene hots up

BHOPAL: The Huzur constituency in the state capital is all set for a needle contest between the ruling BJP and opposition Congress, thanks to dissidents. In July this year, husband of Kolar corporator Shyam Singh Meena had a spat with local MLA Rameshwar Sharma after which Shyam was suspended from the primary membership of the BJP. After doing door-to-door campaign in Kolar area of Huzur constituency on Sunday, Manchandani said, “I and my family have been working among the people not as a political person but as a social worker for more than three decades.” “The only issue we have is scarcity of time, it is very difficult to reach each and every doorstep in such a little time”, he said.Congress candidate Naresh Manchandani considers that his honest and simple image is his biggest strength and claims that he is hopeful of winning elections if response from the voters is anything to go by. He filed his nomination as independent candidate from Huzur, but on Sunday he agreed to withdraw his candidature in support of Congress candidate Naresh Gyanchandani.Sitting MLA Rameshwar Sharma who did door-to-door campaign on Hoshangabad road on Sunday said that he is not facing any issue in the constituency and the only problem that he faces is scarcity of time for campaigning.

While Congress has fielded a new face Naresh Gyanchandani who belongs to the Sindhi community that has a major stake in the constituency, BJP has given ticket to sitting MLA Rameshwar Sharma who had won by defeating the Congress candidate with a margin of 59,000 votes in 2013.Besides these two candidates, former BJP MLA Jitendra Daga and husband of a Kolar corporator who had a dispute with local MLA, have also filed their nominations.
