BHOPAL: In a scathing attack on Congress leader Kamal Nath , chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday that Nath’s ‘decoration’ remark on women is insult to them. This will not be tolerated, he said.Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Congress state president allegedly triggered a row by saying Congress gave tickets to women so that they could win and not for the sake of decoration. “We gave tickets to all women candidates who could win. Just for the sake of quota or decoration, we did not choose that path,” said the Congress state chief when asked about lesser number of women candidates featuring in the Congress list of candidates.The remark by the Congress leader has come as a shot in the arm of the ruling BJP, which demanded the Congress leadership and Kamal Nath apologise for the statement. The CM said Nath must be aware of the Indian culture where women have been given the highest honour. In fact, where women are respected, gods make their home, he quoted famous shloka of Manusmruti while addressing a public rally in Jirapur assembly constituency of Rajgarh district . “Women are Geeta, Ganga, Gayatri and you are saying they are ‘decorative’ piece. The land of MP will not tolerate this, Congress must remember. One Draupadi was insulted which resulted in the battle of Mahabharat and the entire Kaurav clan was wiped out and Congress has no standing compared to Kaurav clan,” Chouhan sharply.The chief minister said Congress leaders stooped too low to malign the image of rival party members. They attacked me and my family with baseless allegations. The party and its leaders seem confused after repeated defeats during last 15 years, he said.The chief minister also attacked Congress for poor development and its failure in providing basic infrastructure to the state. Chouhan said during BJP regime, basic facilities like roads, electricity and drinking water were the focus during the entire regime.“People can see what we have provided. We provided roads, 24x7 electricity and water for irrigation in far-flung places. If voted to power, remaining towns of the district will also get piped water supply in remote villages,” assured Chouhan.The CM addressed public meetings in Susner, Jirapur, Biaora, Narsinghgarh assembly seats of Rajgarh and Ahmedpur of Sehore district , on Wednesday. He also reiterated welfare schemes launched by the state government for the public and promised to develop the state as a prosperous Madhya Pradesh if voted to power.
