BHOPAL: State Congress on Wednesday targeted BJP over an election campaign advertisement printed in local dailies. The campaign, which was carried in Tuesday’s papers, claimed that Congress failed to perform with only 44,000 km of roads in the state from 1947 to 2003 while the BJP government constructed 1.5 lakh km of roads from 2003 till date.“The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of being confused. But it is CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan , who is massively confused,” said state PCC media committee vice-president Bhupendra Gupta “In the series of BJP’s advertisements claiming achievements over past 15 years, the party says Congress constructed only 44,00 km of roads from 1947 to 2003. Fact is, there was no state called Madhya Pradesh in 1947. Madhya Pradesh came into existence on November 1, 1956.”Furthermore, Congress argued the campaign is false and claims much more than ground realities. “We are quoting the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s statistics to prove the BJP is lying about their achievements on roads. The ad says 1.5 lakh km of roads in state during BJP rule from the previous 44,000 km of Congress rule. State PWD department’s Prashashkiya Prativedan (administrative presentation) says there are total 63,637 km of roads in the state. Maybe, the BJP should explain to people of the state where the remaining 90,000 km of roads have disappeared,” Bhupendra Gupta argued.According to Gupta, the state has 7806 km of national highways, 11060 km of state highways, 20412 km of district roads and 24,300 kms of rural roads. “All this data is in the PWD records compiled during chief minister Chouhan’s tenure. So the question is, where are remaining roads of the 1.5 lakh kms constructed by the BJP government?” Bhupendra Gupta asked.Congress said it would take up the matter with the Election Commission with a complaint that BJP is trying to influence voters with false data and information.
