3 women killed as mine caves in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Three women including a minor were killed after a limestone mine caved in while they were inside it in Satna district on Saturday morning.The incident took place near Sirsa jungles under Nayagaon police station of Satna district.Police said that three women all residents of Sitapur village in neighbouring Karwi district of Uttar Pradesh had come for mining limestone at an abandoned mine on government land when it collapsed at around 10 am.On getting information, that three women have been trapped in the debris, police teams rushed to the spot, but all the three were declared dead later by the doctors. The deceased have been identified as Ram Dulari, 40, wife of Bablu Khatik, Gulabiya, 45, wife of Laxman Khatik, Geeta, 16, daughter of Chunni Khatik, all residents of same Sitapur village of Karwi district, said police.There are several places in and around the jungles of Chitrakoot where limestone is found and it is often illegally mined by local residents, said sources.Several such incidents have also been reported in the past, added sources.
