  • | Wednesday | 12th December, 2018

But, it is not the situation in this election. In Bhopal, among six urban seats, Congress has won three seats and not one as had been the case since 2003. BHOPAL: Counting trends on MP Assembly seats available till late on Tuesday suggests shift of a sizeable urban votes from the ruling BJP to the Congress while the rural voters have been divided as usual. In the state assembly elections in recent past, urban voters had seen a distinct liking for the BJP with the Congress facing rout in cities like Bhopal , Jabalpur, Gwalior and Indore. Old war horse of the Congress party, P C Sharma, has made a comeback winning Bhopal (south-west) seat defeating BJP stalwart Umashankar Gupta, who seemed to be invincible till the other day.In Gwalior, too, Congress has virtually reversed the electoral scene with party candidate Pradyuman Singh Tomar leading against higher education minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet Jaibhan Singh Pawaiya by over 10,000 votes and Lakhan Singh Yadav of the Congress leading against former minister Anup Mishra by a convincing margin. Among urban seats of Indore, situation has not changed much with BJP maintaining lead in five out of seven seats but in other urban seats of Malwa- Nimar like Shajapur and Khargone, Congress candidates are leading.Among four urban seats of Jabalpur, Congress has already won two while BJP has got one.In Vindhya region, the Congress might have fared poorly with even leader of Opposition, Ajay Singh, losing the election from his traditional seat, Churhat, but on the most urbane seat of the region, Satna, Congress candidate was leading over his BJP rival.Vidisha assembly seat, where BJP ticket is given to one of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s trusted lieutant, was also captured by the Congress with the party candidate, Shashank Bhargava winning over Mukesh Tandon. On Damoh seat in Bundelkhand region, BJP veteran and finance minister, Jayant Malaiya was trailing against his little known Congress rival, Rahul Singh Lodhi.
