Madhya Pradesh election results 2018: SP, BSP ‘confirm’ support to Congress

In Niwadi, Congress could manage only 10,875 votes while SP and BSP got 38326 and 20463 votes, respectively .Traditionally, BSP and SP have their strongholds in Gwalior-Chambal, Bundelkhand and Vindhya Pradesh.A senior political analyst from Gwalior Chambal region, Dev Shrimali however, differs, “It’s good that the Congress did not enter into alliance with BSP or it would have lost a large number of seats that the party has won in the region because of the upper caste factor.”“Gwalior-Chambal region had witnessed large scale violence after a dalit agitation in April this year leading to six deaths.”“ People have not yet forgotten the violence and a Congress-BSP alliance would have harmed Congress prospects,” he said.Political analysts feel that the agitation related to amendment in SC/ST Atrocities Act had mobilised the upper caste voters before the elections.
