Lokrang preparations underway at Tribal Museum

BHOPAL: Preparations for the five-day long cultural fest Lokrang, which will begin from January 26, have started at the Tribal Museum. Lokrang is one of the most important cultural events of the state and we will organize it with fanfare.”Different folk performances are also scheduled. Seven parts of Gond Ramayani will be enacted by a large troupe of 150 artistes on stage.Gond Ramayani is based on the oral narrative repertoire of Gond Pradhans. Different sessions on creative writing, poetry, storytelling, and traditional methods of toy making will be organized for children, blending fun as well as learning. The central character of this Ramkatha is Lakshman and the story is about his quest for a bride.

Various cultural events and performances by national and international artistes will be hosted at the festival.The series of events will begin with a soulful performance of ‘Gond Ramayani’ directed by Suman Saha from Kolkata and written by Yogesh Tripathi. The script will be narrated by actor Rajiv Verma. Seven parts of Gond Ramayani will be enacted by a large troupe of 150 artistes on stage.Gond Ramayani is based on the oral narrative repertoire of Gond Pradhans. It is very different from the classical Ramayana as we know it. The central character of this Ramkatha is Lakshman and the story is about his quest for a bride. It would treat audience to a different version of the classical Ramayana. Interestingly, the story begins where the classic Ramayana ends after Sita is rescued from captivity.State culture minister Vijayalaxmi Sadho said, “This year Lokrang will witness a blend of cultural experiments and innovations. Lokrang is one of the most important cultural events of the state and we will organize it with fanfare.”Different folk performances are also scheduled. Apart from folk dances and music of Madhya Pradesh , tribal art forms from Manipur , Nagaland, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Telangana will be staged. International artistes will also showcase their performances.To encourage interaction of audience with tribal art forms, many informal performances by artistes of Nimadi, Languria, Bundeli and Pandawani of Bundelkhand region, Rajashthani Manganiyar and Alha of Uttar Pradesh will also be put up. City folks could enjoy these performances with extravagant cuisines and traditional craft exhibits by more than 100 artisans from the country.Children films also would be screened along with puppet shows. Different sessions on creative writing, poetry, storytelling, and traditional methods of toy making will be organized for children, blending fun as well as learning.
