Madhya Pradesh shines in Khelo India, bags two gold

BHOPAL: Making the state proud, Madhya Pradesh’s Mahak Jain bagged women singles title in the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) in Pune on Friday. Keeping the momentum, Boxer Ruchir Srivas won second gold of the day for MP.In the girl's U-21 final, top seeded and two-time national champion Mahak Jain showcased an outstanding performance to beat rival Mihika. I have played Mihika before and she has defeated me a couple of times but I was confident today. Mahak, may get a wild card entry in the $25,000 ITF women’s tournament to be organised in Jodhpur, in early February.

Keeping the momentum, Boxer Ruchir Srivas won second gold of the day for MP.In the girl's U-21 final, top seeded and two-time national champion Mahak Jain showcased an outstanding performance to beat rival Mihika. Though Mahak was seen struggling in the initial stage of the first set as rival Mihika broke her twice to lead 3-0, but she came back to her form to win the next six of seven games for the first set.Mahak outplayed her opponent in the second set in less than 30 minutes. "I didn't start well but then I found my rhythm. I have played Mihika before and she has defeated me a couple of times but I was confident today. Winning the gold is a big thing as KIYG is really prestigiou. Look forward to other tournaments,” the winner said. Mahak, may get a wild card entry in the $25,000 ITF women’s tournament to be organised in Jodhpur, in early February. She had also won the Japan Open Junior Tennis Championship in 2015. With the triumph, she was the first player from MP to win an International Tennis Federation Grade 2 tournament.In the final of the boxing bout, state’s Ruchir defeated UP’s open junior national champion Manish Rathore with 3-2 on scoreboard.
