Bungalows were damaged during BJP regime: Sharma

“The government has stopped funding for several ambitious schemes, but expenses on ministers’ bungalows would be done. Chairs, tables, ceiling fans, beds and electrical goods were missing from the bungalows. No MLA from BJP would damage or remove internal fittings from government bungalow,” said BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma, who won the Huzur assembly seat from Bhopal by defeating Congress candidate Naresh Gyanchandani.Former minister Umashankar Gupta dubbed the allegations as baseless. The secretariat also bore expenses on internal furnishings and gadgets fitted in bungalows. Before handing over bungalows to ministers, officials conduct a physical verification and recover damages, if any, from who had occupied the bungalow.Launching a counter-attack on the Congress government, BJP said the state government and ministers were trying to justify overspend.

Bhopal: In an apparent attack on ministers of the erstwhile BJP-ruled state government, cabinet minister PC Sharma alleged that several things, including furnishings and electrical gadgets were missing from ministers’ bungalows, forcing the new government to spend crores of rupees on renovation of government bungalows.Sources in the Mantralaya, however, disclosed despite severe cash crunch, the Congress government has decided to shell out more than Rs 20 crore on renovation of ministers’ bungalows in plush Char Imli and 74 Bungalows areas of the state capital.“The bungalows allotted to ministers during BJP regime have been severely damaged. Chairs, tables, ceiling fans, beds and electrical goods were missing from the bungalows. Besides, bathroom fittings like taps and showers were also missing in several bungalows,” Sharma told reporters on Wednesday.The Congress law, legal affairs and public relations minister also said the government allotted official accommodation to 28 cabinet ministers with instructions to spend minimum on renovation, but the real picture emerged only after the survey of bungalows which have literally turned dilapidated after the BJP ministers vacated them.As per official norms, the government bungalows were allotted to ministers by the Vidhan Sabha secretariat. The secretariat also bore expenses on internal furnishings and gadgets fitted in bungalows.
