Cages set up to trap ‘spotted ghost’

"The leopard was spotted at 2:30 am and we searched the area from 4 am to 6 am, but it was not spotted again. So we went for the morning walk to a different park. A video footage of the CCTV showed that the leopard had ventured into the park at around 2:30 am on Saturday morning. The rangers will also be stationed in the colony at night", Jhawar said.The fear among residents is palpable as many have changed their morning walk routines. The team has set up cages on the two hills nearby.

In a bid to capture the leopard, which was detected by a CCTV in Akashganga colony of Shahpura, the forest rangers set up a cage near the entrance of the CPA forest on Saturday. A video footage of the CCTV showed that the leopard had ventured into the park at around 2:30 am on Saturday morning. Scared for their safety, the residents have decided to stay indoors, especially during the night.Satendra Gupta, the industrialist whose camera managed to capture the leopard, said: "We are all living in constant fear. We have children who have to go to their tuition class and have to board their school buses early in the morning. We have told them to stay indoors for the time being. I didn't send my daughter to school today."Another resident of the Akashganga locality Abhishek Jain, a private employee said, "My daughters are in class3. We are worried for the safety of our children. I didn't send my daughters tuition classes today. Children of the locality are not being allowed to play even in the park in the evening."Range officer A K Jhawar inspected the area before setting up two cages on the hills, one in front of the colony, and the other on its right. "The leopard was spotted at 2:30 am and we searched the area from 4 am to 6 am, but it was not spotted again. The team has set up cages on the two hills nearby. We have placed a dead goat to lure the animal into the cage. The rangers will also be stationed in the colony at night", Jhawar said.The fear among residents is palpable as many have changed their morning walk routines. The leopard was spotted at the Swarna Jayanti Park near the Bansal hospital in Shahpura a few days ago.Reeta Shrivastav, who goes to the park for a morning walk said, "The Swarna Jayanti Park has been closed as the leopard was spotted there. So we went for the morning walk to a different park. I used to go for the walk at 5 am, but have now we have started going out at 7 am due to leopard's fear."The residents are only hoping that the forest team will be able to catch the leopard soon.
