BHOPAL: Roping in number of social groups to improve facilities at school, Government Primary School at Berkhedi Vajiyaft has been able to set the example of perfect execution of community participation model. As a result, Headmaster Prakash Musre has been successful in imparting quality education to the students and increasing student enrollment."As per the programme of the state education department, I invited people of different social groups and clubs to help out. When one club started donating furniture and electronic appliances, it motivated others as well. The Inner Wheel Club, Rotary Club, All India Women's Conference among others who helped out by installing water purifiers and building new kitchen shed for mid-day meals for children", said headmaster Musre. The school was also felicitated for its achievement by the director of Rajya Shiksha Kendra Irene Cynthia JP."When I joined the school in 2006, it was almost abandoned. There were no proper benches for the students, the ceilings of the classrooms were leaking, there were no toilets and absolutely no arrangement for clean drinking water. It took me two years to understand the needs of the school and since there was no one willing to take an initiative, I decided to involve the locals and people from Bhopal to help us out", headmaster added. As the attendance of the students was at an all time low, the principal went to counsel the parents and found ways to improve the same."The village people are very poor and they need their children to help with cattle grazing and milking the cows so that they can earn a few bucks for the day. So I told them to send the children to school after 12 noon, when the work was done. I had to make a lot if changes to accommodate maximum number of children, but after the social groups started helping us, it was not a problem to pique their interest." The school kids from classes first and second have become well versed in framing sentences, reading English and Hindi.Talking to the students, TOI asked Nancy of class 1 if she can add two-digit numbers. To which, she proudly replied she can add three digit numbers and perform subtraction and multiplication problems too.
