PhD topper didn't take entrance test: RDVV students

"As per UGC norms 2009, students who have done M Phil are exempted from the entrance exam for PhD, but RDVV has not followed rules. This is shocking for me the candidate, who was not present at the exam hall topped P hD entrance test," alleged the candidate. Asked how she knows the candidate was not present, Nikunj said, "I was also present in the same hall. "In that case also, the student who got selected for research work did not appear for the exam," she alleged.

BHOPAL: Controversy erupted in Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya ( RDVV ) after students, who appeared for PhD entrance test, filed complaints against the university for declaring a candidate topper, who was allegedly not present at the exam centre.University's vice-chancellor Kapil Dev Mishra said candidates, who could not clear exam, are raising issue without any evidence.When contacted, vice-chancellor of RDVV, Kapil Dev Mishra said students who could not clear the exam are making allegations out of frustration. "Where is evidence? How to initiate action when no evidence is provided to me by anyone," said Mishra. He said the process would not stop as such allegations are baseless.Nikunj Upadhyay, a complainant, told TOI that the student who achieved 73 out of 100 was not present in the exam centre and has given exams sitting in some other place. "I am M Phil in journalism and mass communication. This is shocking for me the candidate, who was not present at the exam hall topped P hD entrance test," alleged the candidate. The exam was conducted on February 8. Asked how she knows the candidate was not present, Nikunj said, "I was also present in the same hall. Topper was nowhere in the class." She said candidates became furious when results were declared on February 11. "We have raised flag against it immediately after results were declared," said Nikunj.She filed a complaint with Raj Bhawan, UGC, higher education department and others. She also said the university does not follow guidelines formed by UGC in 2009."As per UGC norms 2009, students who have done M Phil are exempted from the entrance exam for PhD, but RDVV has not followed rules. As a bright student, I request authorities to conduct exam again so that who deserve the best should get it," she said. She alleged that rules and regulation are being ignored.She even claimed the PhD exam conducted two years ago was also suspicious. "In that case also, the student who got selected for research work did not appear for the exam," she alleged. Another student pleading anonymity said the university must probe the matter. "Such allegations are serious. The university should not show a hurry before completing results process," said a student.
