BHOPAL: A major incident was averted at Chetak Bridge on Friday morning after a speeding minibus ran over footpath and overturned on an auto after hitting a car. Around half a dozen bus passengers and the car driver sustained minor injuries in the incident.The accident spot is one of the busiest squares in the city. Fortunately, due to Holi festival, there was less traffic on the road in comparison to normal days. Govindpura police station duty officer ASI IS Manjhi said Thomas Phillip (58), a resident of Ashoka Vihar Colony in Ashoka Garden, was on his way to Bagmugaliya in his car.Around 9.30 am when he crossed the rotary on the ISBT end of Chetak Bridge, a speeding Bhopal-Mandideep minibus hit his car from behind while negotiating a turn. Phillip suffered injuries on neck and head. After hitting the car, the minibus ran over footpath and hit a BMC water storage tank kept besides modular public toilets. It broke the plastic water tank and then overturned on an auto-rickshaw parked beside the footpath. Auto driver Rizwan alias Pappu Khan (45), a resident of Mangalwara near Bharat Talkies, told TOI that he had parked his vehicle and went to the modular public toilet just moment before the bus crashed into his auto. His auto-rickshaw was completely damaged in the accident, he added. ASI Manjhi said there were around 5-6 passengers in the bus at the time of the incident. All of them escaped with minor injuries. Car driver Philip was rushed to hospital by police. The police have seized the bus and started investigations after registering a case against the bus driver.
