Lok Sabha elections: Congress workers root for Priyadarshini Scindia

Yashodhara Raje Scindia represented the seat twice between 2007-2009 and 2009-2014. The seat is currently held by Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar , who is contesting the ensuing general elections from Morena. BHOPAL: Gwalior district Congress committee on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution requesting the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to nominate party general secretary and Guna MP Jyotirditya Scindia's wife Priyadarshini Raje Scindia as the Congress candidate for Gwalior.The meeting jointly organized by Gwalior (rural) and (urban) Congress committee passed the unanimous resolution seeking ticket for Priyadarshini for the Lok Sabha elections.A copy of the resolution signed by Mohan Singh Rathore and Dr Devendra Sharma, presidents of Gwalior rural and urban units respectively, would be sent to AICC national president Rahul Gandhi for his perusal.In a recent interview to TOI during his campaign trail in Guna, Jyotiraditya Scindia, when asked about the possibility of his wife contesting the elections on a Congress ticket from Gwalior, had not ruled it out and said that the issue has to be decided by the family members.Jyotiraditya's father Madhavrao Scindia had represented the prestigious Gwalior seat for six times from 1980 to 1999 before he shifted to Guna, the seat held by his mother and BJP leader Vijaya Raje Scindia.In 1999, staunch anti-palace BJP leader Jaibhan Singh Pavaiya won the seat and since then Gwalior is with the saffron party except for 2004 when Ramsevak Singh of Congress won the election.
