Hostel association submits memo over non-payment of hostel fees

The Indore Hostel Owners Association has given a memorandum to Indore collector Manish Singh highlighting the fact that for 3 months the students have not paid any fees to the hostel administration. There are two types of hostel owners in Indore one who are the owner of the hostel and other who take the building on rent and then run the hostel. Both the hostel owners have to pay the bank installments, property tax, electricity tax, water tax, garbage collection tax, permission tax, license fees and many other taxes to the Government regularly. The families of the hostel owners and the thousands of workers engaged in these hostels like cook, room attendant, maid servant, helpers, watchman and drivers are fully dependent on the fees which is given by the students. Also at few hostels the students are reporting to police and taking their bag and baggage forcefully without paying any fees to the hostel owner for which Indore hostel owners association has informed to Indore DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra.

Thousands of people who are working in more than 1000 hostels of Indore district including the hostel owners are facing a tough time during this ongoing lockdown due to covid-19 as lakhs of students who are staying in these hostels have not given any rent or fees for availing the hostel facility for past 3 months since March 2020. The Indore Hostel Owners Association has given a memorandum to Indore collector Manish Singh highlighting the fact that for 3 months the students have not paid any fees to the hostel administration. The vice president of the Indore hostel owners association Bhanvarkuan Zone Lucky Chhabra told The Pioneer that the hostel owners are ready to wave off the amount of food and electricity ie Rs 2000 as a help to the students but the students should pay the remaining amounts to the hostel owners and according to the prevailing legal rules the tenant are bound to pay the rent to the house owners. All the students who are staying in hostels are from prosperous families and are paying around Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs fees yearly to the educational and coaching institutes and many students are also availing the help from Government to pay rent. Also at few hostels the students are reporting to police and taking their bag and baggage forcefully without paying any fees to the hostel owner for which Indore hostel owners association has informed to Indore DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra.
