There are old documents of yield of basmati in MP. Yet opposing GI tags are inappropriate. Shivraj has written a letter to the Prime Minister, seeking intervention in the matter. He said that the matter is not about Madhya Pradesh or Punjab, it is a matter of farmers and their livelihoods.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, the case of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority with them has nothing to do with MP`s claims. Because it comes under the GI Act of India and has no connection with the inland claims of basmati rice.
