Auto driver turns snatcher, pushes woman off

Bhopal: A 20-year-old woman was reportedly pushed out of a moving autorickshaw in broad daylight by the driver, who snatched her mobile phone, in Khajuri locality on Monday. The woman suffered severe injuries after she fell on the road. According to the FIR, the woman, identified as Varsha Bharti, a resident of Sehore who works as manager at a beauty parlour in Ayodhya Nagar, hired an auto-rickshaw from Sehore bus stand to come to Bhopal around 11.30 am. The auto-driver brought her to Phanda toll booth and stopped the vehicle to have tea. While having tea, he introduced himself as Rahul James, a resident of Halalpura in Lalghati near the graveyard, says the FIR. After having tea, they moved towards Bhopal. Around 12.30pm, when they reached near Bhouri Jod on Bhopal-Indore highway, Rahul allegedly grabbed Varshas hand when she was sitting in the rear seat and tried to snatch her phone. When she resisted, he assaulted her and pushed her out of the moving vehicle, says her complaint. She fell on the road. He sped away.Acting on information, Khajuri police reached the spot and registered a loot case on her complaint against unidentified accused. Based on Varshas account about accuseds name and appearance in the complaint, police raided his home and nabbed him. He had hidden his auto-rickshaw behind a country liquor shop in Kolukhedi village. The robbed mobile phone was also recovered from the auto-rickshaw dickey. During preliminary investigation it was found that Rahul was earlier booked on charges of loot at Koh-e-Fiza police station. The police are examining CCTV footage and are making efforts to arrest the driver. The accused were identified as Rashid Khan, Sayyed Ali Shaikh, Ehtesham Siddiqui, and Jamil Ansari.
