Under roaring jets, Metro passes short test run with flying colours

BHOPAL: The ground shook as sonic boom of Indian Airforce jets travelling at mach speed above Bhopals skies coincided with a safety trial run of the soon-to-be-unveiled Bhopal metro rail on Tuesday. After three rounds from the Subhash Nagar depot to Ranikamlapati station and back, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) official declared the trial run a success.During the safety trial, three metro coaches did not attempt to match the pace of the Indian Air Force jets soaring above, as the jet pilots were also engaged in a practice run. The focus of the metro test was on safety and braking after short accelerations. The three coaches completed the 4.5 km journey in 20 minutes, with expectations of even faster travel times once passenger services receive the green light. Commercial operations are likely to commence around mid-2024. On the heels of forthcoming state election, the optics of the trial run, expected to take place on October 2, are shaping up to be picture-perfect for the ruling party as the colour scheme of the 4 km priority corridor are closely aligned with the ruling partys colours. The trial run would feature orange line coaches connecting AIIMS Bhopal to Karond. The trial run will pass through three under-construction metro stations, with green nets adorning the sides of the track and stations. The station roofs, painted in shades of orange, add a distinctive touch, matching the front face of the metro coach to the corresponding metro line colour. Meanwhile, inspections and checks will continue in preparation for the mega event in Indore and Bhopal.
