Kharge late night e-meet, pep talks by Nath & Surjewala

  • | Saturday | 2nd December, 2023

Bhopal: Barely a day before counting of votes, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge called a virtual meeting of top state Congress leaders, including former chief ministers Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh and AICC general secretary in charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, late Friday night. The meeting started at 11 pm. Sources in the party said the agenda was counting day, and wouldnt reveal anything more.Leader of Opposition Dr Govind Singh, former LOP Ajay Singh, former Union ministers Suresh Pachauri, Kantilal Bhuria and Arun Yadav, and former ministers Tarun Bhanot and Kamleshwar Patel were also at the Kharge meet.Earlier in the day, Nath and Surjewala gave pep talks to party workers. Those exit polls that predicted a big win for BJP are a conspiracy, the two leaders said, asserting that Congress will form the next government. All Congress workers should come to the field with full force, PCC chief Nath said. BJP has lost the elections. Some exit polls have been deliberately created so that Congress workers are disappointed and officials can be pressured by creating a false atmosphere, Nath argued. This conspiracy is not going to succeed. All Congress office-bearers, district presidents, district in-charges, heads of different wings and cells should get involved with their work to conduct fair counting of votes. We are all ready to win. We are all united. If you feel any problem, talk to me directly. The Congress government will be formed on December 3, Nath said.Surjewala maintained that Congress will get 135-plus seats and BJP will be defeated. Addressing Congress workers in a video message, he said, Friends, you have fought the darkness of BJP power for 18 years. I am fully confident that the sunrise on December 3 will end the misrule of the BJP government. Congress will fulfil its promises by winning more than 135 seats.Surjewala argued that this assembly election was contested between the people of Madhya Pradesh versus the scams and failures of BJP. We can say with full confidence that the people will win. Everything has been looted in scams — from the future of the youth to nutritional food for children. From insulting tribals to even Mahakal Lok, no one has been spared by BJP, he said.Surjewala argued that most survey agencies are confident of a huge victory for Congress. But BJP is relying on exit poll surveys which the channels may be showing but do not believe the figures themselves and exit polls. The BJP has bad intentions of putting pressure on the administration on the day of counting. We can clearly see an example of this from the attempt to tamper with postal ballots in Balaghat, Surjewala said.He asked Congress workers to remain alert so that counting of votes is done impartially. Officials who are thinking of influencing the election results should know that the next Congress government will register FIRs and take administrative action against those who break the law, he warned.
