On the second day of the three-day national conference of the Indian Anthropology Congress jointly organized by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal and Indian National Confederation and Academy of Anthropologists (INCA), Karma and Sarhul dances were performed by Deepanjali Lakra and her fellow artists in the cultural evening. Dr. Soma Kiro said that Karam Parv is one of the most important festivals of Jharkhand, in which a branch of the Karam tree is worshipped. Karam Devta is considered the God of Energy i.e. power and youth. She further said that on this day, young men and women collect wood, fruits and flowers from the forest for Karam Puja and thereafter young men and women dance and sing in groups. Sarhul is the most famous festival of tribals. In simple words, Sal tree is worshiped in Sarhul. This is the worship of nature. They worship the Sal tree, because the tribals believe that Goddess Sarna resides on the Sal tree. Sarna Maa protects them from every kind of natural and divine calamity.
