Mayor reviews drains in low-lying old city areas ahead of rains

With the weatherman predicting an early arrival of the rains this year, Mayor Malti Rai conducted an inspection of various waterlogging-prone localities in the old city areas of the state capital on Monday. During the inspection, the Mayor told officials to ensure the timely removal of waste and regular monitoring of rainwater drains in the area. Rai visited Kabadkhana, Liaqat Market, Berasia Road P&T Colony, Sindhi Colony, Sundar Nagar, Rambha Nagar and Ibrahimganj, instructing proper cleaning and clear water passage from all nullahs. Rai emphasised the need for sustained supervision even after cleaning, so that stagnant water does not accumulate during the rains. She asked that any remaining drains be addressed immediately. She also instructed coordination with the transport department to deploy additional machinery if existing zone resources prove inadequate for drain-cleaning efforts ahead of the rainy season. Garbage, silt and debris from cleaned drains must be cleared from the area immediately and transported to disposal sites, the Mayor directed, ensuring uninterrupted drainage citywide. During her visit, she interacted with residents and urged them to remove illegally placed items near drains and support the civic bodys public-interest sanitation work. Municipal council member RK Singh Baghel, Zone Four Chairperson Pooja Sharma, and other officials accompanied Rai during the inspection tour. Notably the meteorological department has predicted an early arrival of monsoon, and also pointed at possibilities of an above average monsoon in the state capital this year.
