As soon TV channels flashed news of the 'MP police alert', top officers of MP's intelligence wing and anti-terrorist squad (ATS) were bombarded with calls from mediapersons seeking information. They were killed after escaping from a jail in Madhya Pradesh last year. The letter was leaked, and the advisory was attributed to MP police, triggering a flutter among officers in the police HQ in Bhopal. "We have not sent any advisory to the Uttar Pradesh," Rajeev Tondon, chief of MP's intelligence, told TOI.While the intelligence confusion was being sorted out, Uttar Pradesh police tightened security in all districts. "Gaus Mohammad was living under the name Karan Khatri in Lucknow," said the advisory issued to all IGs and DIGs of UP.

Bhopal: An intelligence letter of Uttar Pradesh police that warned of terrorists sneaking into the state in the guise of sadhus triggered confusion in Madhya Pradesh police because of a misinterpretation of the Hindi terms. The confidential UP police communique had the abbreviation 'ma-pra' printed in Hindi at the bottom of it, which was interpreted as a Madhya Pradesh police advisory to UP cops. The letter was leaked, and the advisory was attributed to MP police, triggering a flutter among officers in the police HQ in Bhopal. Eventually, it turned out that the 'ma-pra' stood for 'mahattvapurna pratishthan' (vital installations), said sources. But by then, there were a lot of frayed nerves in the MP top brass. As soon TV channels flashed news of the 'MP police alert', top officers of MP's intelligence wing and anti-terrorist squad (ATS) were bombarded with calls from mediapersons seeking information. They were bewildered and a flurry of "did-you" phone calls began. "We have not sent any advisory to the Uttar Pradesh," Rajeev Tondon, chief of MP's intelligence, told TOI.While the intelligence confusion was being sorted out, Uttar Pradesh police tightened security in all districts. "A group of 17-18 anti-national elements, trained in Hindu rituals, is planning a spectacular incident at prominent religious sites and other sensitive spots in the guise of sadhus," the letter issued ADG-vital installations wing of UP police said. The advisory said the terrorists were trained by Pakistan's ISI in Hindu rituals, ceremonials, and shlokas for its "Operation Krishna India", and might try to blend with the local populace before carrying out major terror strikes and disrupt communal harmony of the country. They will try to sneak in though the UP-Nepal border, it said. The letter referred to the Bijnor blast in which suspected SIMI members had taken a house on rent using Hindu names. They were killed after escaping from a jail in Madhya Pradesh last year. It also named Gaus Mohammad, who was arrested by UP ATS following inputs from their MP counterparts, during a crackdown on wannabe-IS Jihadists behind the recent Ujjain-Bhopal train blast. "Gaus Mohammad was living under the name Karan Khatri in Lucknow," said the advisory issued to all IGs and DIGs of UP.
