Biometric machines for attendance in all KVs soon

Bhopal: Over 55 Kendra Vidhyalays under Bhopal region are set to install biometric machines to mark attendance of teachers, employees as well as students. The multi-purpose card, technically called as Online Multi-domain Value (OMV), would be given to all the staff and students of KV. "The programme was launched by the MHRD for KVs in 2015, but the work for its implementation all over the country got delayed. Deputy commissioner of Bhopal region would function as nodal officer and keep a watch on the entire initiative. "Following the implementation of the new system no one would be able to miss the school as the attendance would be accessible to MHRD officials directly," officials told TOI.

As part of digital India program, Union human resource development had earlier launched an initiative called 'Shala Darpan', an initiative which is to be implemented from current academic year.The e-governance software would maintain the online database of every KV student, and is also said to have features like sending information about a student's daily medical conditions and progress reports to parent on their registered mobile number, through SMS and mail. The multi-purpose card, technically called as Online Multi-domain Value (OMV), would be given to all the staff and students of KV. They can be used as an identity card, library and health card."The programme was launched by the MHRD for KVs in 2015, but the work for its implementation all over the country got delayed. The software provides a single platform for all stakeholders' like students, parents, teachers and the management. We are going to implement it soon in all KVs in Bhopal," said Dharmendra Singh Parmar, head master KV1 Bhopal.He said that the new programme will ensure transparency in administration and governance, and would also do away with the issue of teacher-student absenteeism.In a letter sent to regional KV office Bhopal, the Delhi headquarters has stated that biometric attendance system (BAS) would be mandatory for all KVs under the Digital India programme of the Union government. It adds that it has been decided to implement BAS which will enable an employee to register attendance by simply presenting his / her biometric (finger print/ iris).Under the BAS, a teacher or employee's fingerprint would be authenticated online and matched with bio-metric stored in employee's Aadhaar number. Every employee would have to furnish Aadhaar number, basic demographic details and photograph for registration. "All ministries/departments/subordinate organisations can access the system using the NIC network," reads the letter. Deputy commissioner of Bhopal region would function as nodal officer and keep a watch on the entire initiative.
