BHOPAL: In a heart-rending incident in Sagar district, a man allegedly threw his two daughters — 4 and 6 year of age — in Betwa river. The accused told police that he took the extreme step because he was fed up with the taunts of some villagers and his wife about being father of three daughters.According to police, the accused Kamlesh Ahirwar, owner of a small piece of land in Mungawli tehsil of Ashoknagar, pushed his two daughters — Raksha (6) and Poonam (4) — in the overflowing Betwa river in the neighbouring Sagar district. Ahirwar was jobless. After 27 days of investigations, he was arrested on Wednesday and sent to jail. One of the two girls was crying when she saw her father throwing her sister, Rajveer Singh Gurjar, SHO of Mungawali police station told TOI. "Papa usko nadi mein kyo fenk diya (Papa, why did you throw her into river)," the little girl had asked crying bitterly, the SHO said quoting the killer father.Gurjar said, "He took his two daughters by train to Sagar and got down at a small village from where he went to a railway bridge and pushed them down one by one in the deepest part of the river." He said that the body of Raksha was recovered on August 25 while that of the younger sister is yet to be recovered. For 27 days, Ahirwar kept misleading not only to the police but also to his family, Gurjar said.Police said, Ahirwar had left with his daughters on the pretext of seeing a doctor. "From day one, I was suspecting the man," the SHO said, adding, but as he himself was the complainant, the police maintained restrain.
