Lioness Vrinda to roar no more

BHOPAL: Vrinda , one of the four hybrid big cats at the Van Vihar National Park , breathed her last on Wednesday. The lioness was keeping very ill for the past one month and had stopped taking food since the last 20 days.As per the autopsy report, she died because of a chronic liver disease and excess fibrous connective tissues were found in her uterus.According to park vets, Vrinda was in a critical condition from the past one month. She was then operated upon to clear the blockage so that she can pass stool.Van Vihar officials did not show any improvement during the treatment. She was brought along with three other hybrid big cats. Park vets Dr Atul Gupta and Dr Amol Narwade jointly conducted her post-mortem after which she was buried in the presence of Van Vihar officials.Vrinda was brought to Bhopal from Guwahati on April 14, after covering a distance of 2,200 kilometres.

She was not passing stool for a few days and tests revealed that her vent was blocked by an internal organ growth.On November 9, vets including Dr Kajal Jadhav and Dr Nidhi Rajput from Jabalpurbased School of Wildlife Forensic and Health conducted a sonography and took her blood sample. She was then operated upon to clear the blockage so that she can pass stool.Van Vihar officials did not show any improvement during the treatment. She was also fed with IV fluid (glucose) for past two weeks. Park vets Dr Atul Gupta and Dr Amol Narwade jointly conducted her post-mortem after which she was buried in the presence of Van Vihar officials.Vrinda was brought to Bhopal from Guwahati on April 14, after covering a distance of 2,200 kilometres. She was brought along with three other hybrid big cats.
